This is the first meeting of the Woodturners Group. The group is being formed as a subgroup of the CMWA and will meet at Gary Mrozek's shop. All are welcome. Its goal is to provide woodtruners of all skill levels an opportunity to share knowledge and resources.
Fifteen individuals attended the first meeting on Saturday March 8th for an introductory demonstration in segmented turning. Formulas to determine the size and angles of the segments, the use of a miter sled and a method for applying glue and clamping the segments together to form a ring were discussed. There was also a method of salvaging a cracked bowl with the use a bronze dust and epoxy. This gives a unique solution to an otherwise piece of “firewood”.
Each month a project theme will be assigned to those who wish to take the challenge. In the spirit of Easter, this month’s challenge will be to turn a wooden egg. Those interested are invited to bring their project to the March 19th meeting to display.
The next meeting of the Turners Group will be Saturday April 5th at 9:00 AM at Gary Mrozek’s shop. All are welcome. Bring a friend!
